Freshwater amoeba. Mayorella??

Post by carlos.uruguay »

In this video we observe a small freshwater amoeba
It measures about 55um (0.55mm) length.
It has only one nucleus and has eaten a diatom.
We suppose that it belongs to the genre Mayorella
Found it in the 'Cañada Bentancor', 1 km at west of the km 98 of Route 3,
Department of San José - Uruguay - South America.
Phase contrast.

Yes, it's a Saccamoeba. It has very irregularly shaped crystals, very unusual, but large crystals are common in this genus.

Cheers,

Ferry
