Cyanobacteria in Red & Black

A lake close to me - Lost Lagoon in Stanley Park - has frequent blooms of cyanobacteria. To the eye this is a green layer of algae, but when looking closer to me it is the epitome of playing what-does-that-cloud-look-like?

I spot two Calabi–Yau manifolds (6 dimensional shape of superstring theory), one art face mask, one infinity symbol, a scary monster and a globular galaxy cluster. The others I am still undecided on.

Nice fireworks.

For the first six pictures, the bacterium seems to be Microcystis... a crap for the environment.

Very interesting shots !
The fith one reminds me a head, with the eyes and a mouth

The sixtth one reminds me some embryo lying on the back with legs up (the feet are visible very good

)

Sixth one is my monster. Look at the scary eyes and mouth, and the arms at the side.

What interest me most is why these cells form these patterns? There must be some driving force but they seem pretty random, yet they produce non random results - at least to my visual cortex.
