a polichaete without any eyes?

Post by Franz Neidl »

I could'nt find any eyes in this polichaete. But when I switched on in my microscope a stronger light it reacted by moving faster. So my question: maybe the red dots in every section are something similar to eyes, maybe a primitiv form? But I am not shure. I dont even know the name of the species of this bristleworm.

Brightfield, objective 4x, seawater plankton, 2 pictures

Doesn't seem to have much in the way of mouthparts or antennae. Perhaps it's lost its head and hasn't regenerated it yet?

Hello Greg !

thank you for your valuable help! I did'nt know that the policheta have even the possibility to regenerate their head (prostomium)!
