Meridion circulare

This nearly circular colony of the diatom Meridion circulare, which has a diameter of about 110 µm, was found in water sampled from a flooded meadow.

That is simply an incredible picture Bernd. What a beautiful creature. Do they form a full circle?

sometimes they form spirals, but not full circles.
