A purple ciliat - Blepharisma musculus

Post by myriophyllum »

Hi,

I'd like to show a video of some Blepharisma musculus.
They are purple colored (similar to Stentor igneus) ciliates
found between Sphagnum under the ice of a small lake.

You can find the video here:

… some "crops" out of the movie stills:

Your comments are welcome.

Greetings

Edit: As Bruce posted, it seems to be Blepharisma musculus not Amphileptus.
I will edit the video title, too.

Very nice video to watch in 720 HD full screen. I must complement you on your "tracking" ability as you follow the subject... very smooooth!

As user of Zeiss Standard microscopes that KPL 20X intrigues me a lot. Could you explain (here or at the technical forum) how do you use it with the camera and how magnification on sensor do you get?

Thank You, Charles,

Hi,

I used the 0,25x T2 Adapter (63 mm) with the Kpl 20x/8 (field stop removed to cover the sensor of the EOS 5DII) instead of the
S-Kpl 10x/20 photoeyepiece.
So the magnification is 25x20x0.25 = 125x.
So the ciliate is about 130 mü long.

Greetings
Jens
