I've been lurking the forums for quite a while and finally decided to join to share my photo's and what I have learned.
My main camera is a Canon G12 with close-up filters. I recently started playing with enlarger lenses on my other DSLR because of this forum. I haven't quite pulled the trigger on a microscope objective yet, but I'm getting close.

Welcome, David.
I have looked at your excellent shots on Picasa.
G12 is my favourite to-go camera, both for shooting outside:

or even for stacking in the studio:

Thank you Fred! All my photo's so far have been posted to Google+ so some of the comments on the pics might not make sense since they don't have a link to the post the pic was attached to.canonian wrote:Welcome, David.

Why'd you have to show me your G12 with microscope objective? Now I'm really wanting to try seeing as someone else has done it. The deep stacks that I've done so far have all been using CHDK to do the stepping. No focus rail of any type for me yet.
Just wanted to show what's possible with a simple point-and-shoot.defante wrote:Why'd you have to show me your G12 with microscope objective?

I have to look into this CHDK, to see if I can use it in the field.
For studiostacking I prefer an APS-C or FF sensor, attaching the microscope objective to a P&S was just an experiment.

That's cool. It looked like in your picture that you were also using digital zoom. Is there vignetting without it? I shoot raw so I never use digital zoom.
CHDK is a firmware hack to give it some added functionality. Focus stacking is just one of the many things it can do. The step size isn't that great though for super deep stacks as the smallest step size is 1mm. I haven't had a need for it to be any smaller so I've been happy with it so far.

Yes indeed, at the end of optical zoom I had to use some digital zoom to avoid vignetting.
