And yet another new ciliate for me. I have been meaning to ask, where do you dip samples from, right on the bottom. You always seem to have a lot of other interesting things in your views. :)

Hello Mitch,

I usually take two 4 oz.samples: I skim the open water with a sample bottle and then I take one from the bottom of the water collection. I have a sample bottle with a very fine screen bootom fixed to a 4 foot pole for both surface and bottom dipping.

Great idea. We have no real lakes or ponds here right along the Mississippi River and stepping off into the water, you might go down 10 feet before hitting bottom. LOL
