Litonotus, Strobilidium and rotifer egg

Post by RogelioMoreno »

Here a few pictures of what I think is Litonotus, Strobilidium and rotifer egg.

All with Nikon TE300, 20x/0.75, DIC, flash and Canon TE300 mounted on the front port of the TE300.

Excellent photos as usual. Your DIC is unique, in that I see the black to white variation that is normal to DIC but there is also an added gold colored bright element that highlights different areas than the white. I wonder what this is from? It definitely makes the photos more interesting.

Its interesting that the gold is where a 'normal' DIC image would be darkest. Similar to solarization effect. If using curves adjustment in photoshop you would create a spike in the darkest area then back to zero and keep the rest of the curve natural

Thanks Rogelio. I sent a reply

It would be great to find it out... I thought it is normal in this DIC system. It would be nice to compare it with other. I'm trying to get this effect on my universal filter (:

No problem: send me your microscope and I will send you mine, but because they need to cross the Atlantic, not returns are allowed.
I'm also very interested in perform this comparison :smt082

Seen the first picture of Graham here and the two last pictures of Jean-marc here we can conclude that the effect of illumination from both side is normal on DIC systems.
