The down of a thistle

Post by Charles Krebs »

Here are 3 images of the seed down from a Canada Thistle (Cirsium arvense). There are a few of these growing at the edge of my yard, so I put a couple pieces of the fluffy down on a slide to see what it looked like on the microscope. Quite a beautiful subject to study. The top shot reminded me a great deal of a grove of alder trees in the winter. The other two get more abstract... a type of image I really enjoy making. I think I'll probably spend a little more time working with this subject.

Beauty can be found in some of the most unexpected places, I like the first image the best. It does look like a grove of alders, would make a nice photograph for framing I think. Thanks Charlie. :D

That is funny Ken. When I saw the first image, I thought I was looking at an image of trees. It would make a great wall hanging :D

Great images, as always, Charlie, and I agree with Sue about the wall hanging

Though we lean upon the same balustrade, the colours of the mountain are different.

Those are very ugly pictures, Charlie!!!

Of course they are not but I thought I'd write something different for a change! Just getting compliments is not good for a person! :)

Keep up the good work! I wish I had more time for microscopy. Too much work. :(
