Hi gang,
This is my latest project when it comes to softing of light. I have used Lee Filters #400 LeeLux on both sides of the rings.
The rings come from plumbing supplies bought at a local store, nothing fancy. Filters on both sides of the rings. Have heard so many times that people use double filters, but never with spacing between the filters.
I will try it out next week on some micro minerals.
The space between the filters is about 10mm as I think the first filter near the LEDs will soften and the second filter will give a very even light.
Works in my head

Re: Softing of light
Are you worried about the LEDs heating up the front barrel of the objective? For high NA this could have a significant effect, though I do not have experience with such a system.
Re: Softing of light
Hi Lou Just,
I have used this light source before without problems
Hope not my soft filter will cause any issues
I will try it out later, maybe next week

Re: Softing of light
If there is any effect, it would depend strongly on the NA of the objective.

Re: Softing of light
Looking forward to seeing results. Putting space between diffuser layers is something I've read about from time to time. I use that detail as well.

I was testing it out today
As I work in a basement, the temperature is relatively low
No heat on the objective at all
Think it worked like a charm
I will post an new image, maybe later tonight if I'm done working on it
