Another Zerene Stacker substacking script generator program

Post by Kieran Jones »

At the risk of saturating a specialized market, I've written a program called MakeSubStackingScript
that generates Zerene Stacker batch script files for creating PMax or DMap substacks with that program.

It will also cause images to be aligned prior to substacking if desired.

- The program is stand-alone and self-contained. It needs no other software to run.

- The program uses an interactive, command-line-based window to obtain prompt-based,
user-entered information from which to generate the script file.

- It should run on most current Windows and Mac OSX platforms. The program
itself has been tested successfully on:

   Windows XP SP3 32-bit
   Windows 7 SP1 64-bit
Mac OSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard) 64-bit

The scripts it generates work successfully with Zerene Stacker V1.04 on Windows 7
SP1 64-bit. I'm assuming that they will also work with Zerene Stacker on the XP
and Mac OSX systems as well.

- The generated script file defines one Zerene batch job having a task for each
substack to be created.

- MakeSubStackingScript generates the script file and saves it using the name
and location specified by the user.

- The generated script does not itself set any Zerene preferences. Preferences
used during substacking are those in effect when the script is run within Zerene.

- To download MakeSubStackingScript:

   - the download is in the form of a zip-compressed file.
   - download the Windows version from here.
   - download the Mac version from here.

- To install MakeSubStackingScript:

   - the downloaded zip file contains one folder.
   - extract this folder from the zip file to any location on your system.

   - Note: on Mac OSX systems, the download may have automatically extracted
the folder for you. In this case you'll get the folder itself rather than
   the zip file.

- The extracted folder contains a README.txt file describing how to use MakeSubStackingScript.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments.

I have yet to try it yet.
But I will do.

As I'm sure many other ZS users will

Hello Johan:

Thank you for your feedback and for the link to the program on your new website.

I'll keep an eye on it and will try to reply to any user questions there about the program.

I've added a convenience feature to the MakeSubStackingScript program.

The prompt for the number of images to be substacked now displays
the number of Zerene project input images as the default maximum value.

If the latter cannot be determined the prompt display behaves as before
and omits the default maximum value.

The updated program can be obtained using the same download links
listed in the first post of this thread.

I've added another minor convenience feature to the MakeSubStackingScript program.

After the user enters the desired substack size and overlap, the program now displays
the number of substacks that will result from those settings, and asks if that number is OK to use.

The number can then be accepted or rejected by the user. If rejected, the program reprompts
for new substack size and overlap values.

This update can be obtained using the same download links listed in the first post of this thread.

I've added yet another minor convenience feature to the MakeSubStackingScript program (now at V1.3).

When the program finishes generating the first batch script file, it now asks the user if another
script should be generated, rather than simply ending.

If another script is to be generated, the program repeats the same prompts as before to create
the next script.

However, prompts requiring a filename or directory path will now supply as a default the same values
entered for the script that was previously generated.

To use these same values just hit enter/return at the relevant prompt without entering any value.

In addition, the README fle has been updated to include a section on copy-pasting in DOS command
windows, and references to other substack script generation programs and websites.

This update can be obtained using the same download links listed in the first post of this thread.
