Home-made camera support for microscope

Post by NikonUser »

This simple set-up has served me well.
The weight of the camera/bellows is entirely on the stand.
The foam 'washer' surrounding the 2.5x relay lens acts as a light seal, the bellows just rests upon it.
The bellows is useful for final tweaking to get the image through the eyepieces to be in the same focus as the image on the camera.
Left side of the D90 shows the ports for AC power and the HDMI socket for connecting to a TV; all image viewing is on the TV via Live View.
A wireless remote triggers the shutter.
Previously I used a flash in place of the 100w halogen lamp but very recently have switched to using the halogen lamp; RAW can correct colour.
The low wooden bar on the stand is adjustable so as that it can be exactly horizontal and at the correct height to hold the base of the bellows.
Everything rests on a granite slab (no holes!)

Quote – Holmes on ‘Entomology’
” I suppose you are an entomologist ? “
” Not quite so ambitious as that, sir. I should like to put my eyes on the individual entitled to that name.
No man can be truly called an entomologist,
sir; the subject is too vast for any single human intelligence to grasp.”
Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr
The Poet at the Breakfast Table.
