i have an older axioskop50 its rms.
a friend has given me a Zeiss Epiplan Neofluar 5x / 0,15 HD Objective to use while my set gets shipped to me .#44 23 24 this is M27.
im eventually upgrading my axioskop to a uv led in the right NM
has anyone used an adapter and are there any issues with doing this ?

Re: M27 to rms adapters
Good question, I am looking for an adapter for a 27mm and/or 26mm objective to 25mm.
Re: M27 to rms adapters
I think that for normal use it will work pretty well, with some caveats:
- The M27 adapted will not be parfocal with the RMS ones (or you need to put RMS extensions of similar length)
- be sure that the peripheral light way is occluded by the adapter, it likely will be
With a 5X likely you wouldn't have issues of the objective hitting the sample if it is a slide or DIC issues doesn't apply (with higher magnification they could do)

Re: M27 to rms adapters
i just ordered the 6 adapters from m27 to rms, with the addition of a adapter ring to convert my one super expensive 100x RMS to a m27 to fit the other adapters to bring all the objective lengths the same from the turret.
i will probably piddle with how the uv gets obscured by the adapter , nothing a port and polish and a bit of mirroring cant fix.. im hoping lol

Re: M27 to rms adapters
I played around with a few options, adapters, designing new adapters, but i did not see any beneficial advantages so i am trying a different path, i heard that the axiosop came in a m27 reflected only version, but i have never seen one for sale, so im going to modify mine to do the same with the exception of transmitted light too. this may be of interest, and then again it may not be. anyways its posted here .
i started out with ordering a second turret. the axioskop50 nomarski DIC version,
disassembled and prepped it for machining... and making the light opening bigger to work with reflected light. Remove the brass DIC slide holder things Remove the turret, i had to warm it up hot to the touch to loosten all screws. i had to cnc a negative of the part to hold and center the turret while i cut it Like a glove the cutting:
after the roughing and finish pass i was ready to hand finish and chemicaly blacken the newly exposed brass. I asembled the turret and she looks and functions like new !
now to take the threaded DIC slider holder things to a machine shop to get resized from m20 to m27.
Time to hunt down a good shop !!!!!!!
Im hoping the advantages of being able to use m27 and m20 objectives make it usefull in all areas
That and the fact i have full set of epiplan neofluars
anyways , i will keep everyone up to date

Re: M27 to rms adapters
Very impressive! Looks like a tricky project but you handled it quite well.
Re: M27 to rms adapters
Thanks for the kind words. , this was the easy part. Still have to find someone to do the second partScarodactyl wrote: ↑Thu Mar 18, 2021 8:30 pmVery impressive! Looks like a tricky project but you handled it quite well.

Re: M27 to rms adapters
im heading to a friends to machine the new threads, Fingers crossed..
also picking up a Olympus BX dark-field cube with elliptical mirror, hopefully its large enough to get ground to shape and fit the axioskops 3fl slider without too much modding

Re: M27 to rms adapters
I completed the hard part today, with a little play on a lathe,
After all that fun i think i have a better than stock machine, i dont think the brass has blackened enough so want to look into a spray or paint on.
Next is to wait for the olympus bf/df cube to modd for the 3fl slider. ( this should be fun .......)
At least i get to retain the DIC slider slot for future use

Re: M27 to rms adapters
Finally had the time to finish this conversion project of a regular old axioskop 50 into a tool that can do more than originally designed to do..... And i have to say it turned out better than i thought it would.
I had to take an elliptical mirror from an olympus cube . Remove it and mod it to fit the 2F axioskop slider.
This along with a light source lense change. (The hardware changes in the above post ) and a bit of black 3.0
Started out by removing the mirror from the olympus cube. It was held in by a small anount of a rubber glue around the edges
Then had to remove some of the glass on the edge of the mirror so it can fit in the slider where the original 50/50 mirror was by wet sanding very carefully !! Each side a flat spot.
And after all this i was getting a very bad glare which took alot of the viewing area .
By the shape of the flares i knew something was not centered ! Had to be the mirror. To fix this i had to remove the adjustable mount from the slider ( the part that is held in place by the 4 screws and 4 gobs of grey epoxy as the reflected light was not centerd and had to be adjusted so ) and also to make a washer by trial and error on the right size internal opening to solve the problem. I ended up using the center of a dvd. Haha and placing it on the eyepiece side of the cube. To cut the unwanted rays... i will re epoxy this after the entire microscope is cleaned and aligned The pictures below are not as good as viewing with the naked eye
An old cpu i smashed: A mosquito larva slide with a white paper background
So im happy with how everything turned out. I can use RMS and m27
I even re coated the light paths with some black 3.0 to help with keeping things super dark and clear
Next is to have it professionally cleaned and realigned.
There is a few small areas i will improve on and first is in the upper light guide. The way the lenses are only puts i would say half the light to the mirror and even less thru the objectives. My fix was to add a concave lense inline to change the angle....
So i will take some measurements and locate the right lense with the right focal points to get better results.... the only thing better would be to find the right parts from the EPI only version of this scope. But thats for me is not a priority as the pictures as you can see are very good and bright..
Next find a thin optical glass filter to replace the dvd washer. I can place it in my jewlers lathe and hand paint it. This will keep the dust out
Lastly to machine the sliders bottom plate to the correct size hole and re-blacken..and reinstall
To date i made :
UV led light source
White full spektrum LED.
RGB laser light source. ( need to play with this one )
365nm led source

Amazing job the pictures are brilliant.
Would not have thought such a job would even be possible, seriously impressive work.
