I typically see these when there is dust on my relay lens.

It's definitely due to dust someplace.

See the explanation at https://zerenesystems.com/cms/stacker/d ... hy_is_that .

If you don't have a lighted loup, definitely get one. It really helps to see dust on the sensor.

One easy way to diagnose dust on the sensor is to look at your individual images. If you see a black spot on an image, track through the subsequent images and see if the spot moves. You'll find that if it does, the path will match the line in your stacked image.

  1. Be careful with the sensor.
  2. Run your camera's self-cleaning function a few times with the lens removed and the camera inverted so debris can fall out.
  3. Get a Giotto's squeeze blower. Blow onto the sensor with the camera inverted. If it's a DSLR, you will have to go into manual cleaning mode, which locks up the mirror. Be careful not to touch the sensor.
  4. Use something like SensorSwab Ultra for cleaning.
  5. Use Eclipse cleaning fluid. Some people say it's overpriced, but it works for me. It's not like you're going to be using gallons of it, only a drop or two per swab.
Follow the directions for whatever cleaning stuff you use and take your time.
