Oxidized 1 euro cent

Post by Darionett »

Hi,

This coin has been in the basket where we keep our house keys for years, recently it occurred to me to take a closer look. The photo was then taken using focus stacking with a 5X microscope lens, on the FF sensor, cropping the edges to remove the portions with less detail, then assembled as you would with a panoramic shot, the result is an image with a resolution of 23654 × 23654, which guarantees me and anyone who wants to take a look to be able to observe the small details that have formed on this coin.

via the below link you can view the image in full resolution

Best regards,
Dario

Very nice! How many tiles and how many total exposures is this?

BTW, I have admin-edited the URL to use gigapan.com instead of gigapan.org, to avoid browser complaints about gigapan's certificate for HTTPS.

Thank you rjlittlefield,

This is the result of joining 71 tiles, 10.082 exposures, each tile has a resolution of 4050x4050px

Very nice image. Lots of work to get this result, but worth the effort.

thanks, it was actually a very long job, and since it was the first time I did it, I lost a lot of time in understanding and trying to assemble an image at such a resolution, now the most tedious part is waiting for it to finish creating the sequence of tiles, I don't remember exactly how long it took, from 6 to 9 hours.

Although, it makes me smile to think that in reality it was the coin that waited the longest, so that it could oxidize like this

I would never have allowed myself to start a project like that, if it weren't for the fact that I changed my camera, opting for one without a mechanical shutter.
