Bee On Milkweed

Post by AlP »

This morning's misadventure, a bee on a Milkweed flower at 1x, 40 steps at 650µm. At first sight I thought it was sleeping then I noticed it didn't have a pulse, hence the forty steps. Canon 5D MK IV with Canon MPE 65mm.

And how did you measure the pulse? What is a bee heart rate? Very nice shot. You got ‘em dead or alive…

Good questions, which I had to Google for the information because everything on the internet is true (winky eye). One site sez " Their hearts beat about 1320 times every minute" another site sez "A bee’s heart rate can reach as high as 12 beats per second, although it is typically around 8-10 beats per second" which equates on the high end at 720 bpm. So, whilst watching said subject I touched it and it did not move, hence, no pulse.
