Could be. But I'm guessing that bright orange blob is one antenna sticking out a little so as to be visible. The antennae of Phanaeus vindex are bright orange, as shown for example HERE. There are some pictures at bugguide.net that show lumps like this one in top view, that are clearly antennae in side view. Direct examination under a stereo scope would tell for sure.

A beautiful beast, in any case.

Right you are - it is an antenna. Now I want to shoot a detail of the mouth parts.
