Crane fly

Post by pawelfoto »

A random fly was to be used to test the new lighting set. She looked gray and plain without the glasses. It was only through the lens that I saw how beautiful she is. You can see an alien humunculus in it. I associated it with the silhouette of a long jumper landing on the ground.

Crane fly (Diptera:Tipulidae), very nice.

Despite that I now expect them, I'm still always surprised to see those bright green eyes on a fly that is otherwise drab.

The green seems to be a specular reflection off the very surface of the eye. The color changes to copper at some angles. See for example the closeup at viewtopic.php?t=4949 .

Very nicely captured. One of the common crane flies I see also has lovely green eyes.
