Triops 2019

Post by mygale »

After tarantulas and scorpions, I will focus 2019 on an entirely new kind of ancient and overlooked animals: Triops.
This means a ton of new macro images, new posters and a new collaboration… > https://mygale.de/triops-2019/

Stunning!

Could you expand on the "underwater" part. Shot through glass I presume?

A spectacular image, Julian.
Can you reveal how you "posed" your model?

In the surroundings of the Albufera de Valencia, this animal was very abundant. Now it has practically disappeared. Many years ago, I photographed (with my OM2) and filmed (in 16mm) these living fossils, ... but we did not get anything like this.

A SPECTACULAR IMAGE, the quality of the image is surprising, especially considering that it seems to be submerged, .. nothing moves in the whole stack. Perfect lighting, really a fantastic job,

Julian, Congratulations.

Cool image!
My guess: It's upside down.

Best regards,

No, it was shot like it is, upside down wouldn't work.

And how do you manage to immobilize them?

Wow, absolutely amazing results. These are some scary yet nice looking critters.

Edit: Went to your webpage and saw your workflow, everything seems to me nicely organised unlike my messy studio! What do you use for cleaning and setting specimens?

I can see the following items:
- Ultrasonic cleaner
- Various brushes, tweezers, scissors, needles
- Microscope
- Pins and etc. for setting specimens
- Various liquids

May I have some specifics on the types of liquids you use and your setup with the ultrasonic cleaner? Would the cleaner ruin specimens badly? I was advised against using it to clean minerals since it could cause serious damage, not sure about insects.

For the Triops I used nothing for cleaning. The ultrasonic cleaner has regular dishing water in it. So far none of my specimens got damaged by the ultrasonic cleaner, but as I use no special solvents for cleaning I can't say if that would harm them.
