Old dragonfly

Yes, a little old, (drangonflies may be much older, from Carboniferous period), from Jurassic limestone beds in Solnhofen, Germany, 150My.
Photographed in Naturkunde museum in Berlin. Canon EOS 20d, 17-85mm lens, built in flash (a very pedestrian tourist setup)

Must have been flying at hell of a speed when it hit that rock!

It is amazing that so many insects, as it were, made it through the End Permian. Just think what it would be like, if all of them had survived!
