Posted more for ID confirmation rather than technical prowess ...
I was out looking for fungi and my kids discovered this jewel hidden under some bark.
Body length about 15mm, Nikon 200f4, natural light.
I'm pretty sure it is a Carabus auratus but my IDs are usually way off. I teased it out of it's hole for one shot before it skedaddled and we replaced it's bark roof and left it in peace for the winter.
