Here in Washington State the solar eclipse was only partial, max coverage about 37%.

I don't have any equipment suitable for pointing at the sun, but I do have some window shades with little holes that make pretty good pinhole cameras. Most of the time they just show leaves from the tree in my backyard, but for a few minutes between clouds they also showed a nice view of the eclipse.

Shown above are six pinhole images, generated simultaneously by six different holes. The top four show also some leaves in front of the sun, the fifth one is mostly clean with perhaps a little bit of tree branch on one side, and the bottom one is partially cut off by overhang of the roof. There were no others because the roof got them all.

The "projection screen" is vinyl flooring with fake wood grain. It's remarkably well printed, hard to see the halftone grid even with a magnifying glass. The camera was cell phone, Pixel 6a.

We were at about 99%. Totality was about a two hour drive away, but I had teaching obligations. It was still very impressive (I hear).

Hello Rik,
Nice "cameras" and nice "projection screen" :-)
I'm just jealous because I couldn't see anything :-(
Best, ADi
