Small Fly

Post by Marcepstein »

I was culling some images that I took a few years ago and forgot about and came across this little fly on a hibiscus petal. It's very colorful but I dont know the species (coastal South Carolina). The images were taken with a Canon EOS 5D Mark II and Canon ef 180mm macro lens.

Nice photos.

A Longlegged Fly, Dolichopodidae, maybe Genus Condylostylus.

Nice photo. It's been a very long time since we last seen a fly around here or at least in my locale anyway. :)

Very good! People in this hobby eventually learn that these flies have incredible reflexes, so that if you use a TTL flash they will at times zip off at the first metering flash and be long gone when the picture is actually taken a fraction of a second later.

Thanks for the comments. I have a few more to post soon. These were taken with a canon 180mm macro lens that lets you get a little closer without disturbing too much. I eventually traded it for the ef 100mm macro .
