Greenbottle Blow Fly

Post by dunksargent »

Greenbottle Blow Fly 'sunning' on limestone cliff face. Photographed at Swaddywell Nature Reserve, Peterborough UK, 24 September 2022. A quick 'grab shot' whilst photographing Ivy Mining Bees. Nikon 1 J5 / Nikkor 70-300 VR / 72mm length Chinese extension tubes (taped together to prevent 'sag'); 300mm zoom setting ISO 400 f5.6 1/800 ; 1" sensor thus 2.7x crop factor; resultant effective aperture approx f30 at this magnification — into diffraction territory but appears to work. Image is cropped. Advantage of using the Nikon 1 j5 with 300mm lens (810mm FF equivalent) plus extension tubes, is the 'comfortable' lens to subject distance at high magnifications. J5 does not have an EVF; it was the "entry level" Nikon 1 camera but offered the best 20.8mp sensor of the Nikon 1 series. J5 camera adapted to accept a Zacuto magnifiied optical finder on the monitor to improve live view composition.
