Mesostigmata: Sejidae animated frontal view

Post by Sym P. le »

Some time ago I grabbed some samples from the forest floor and stored them in ziplock containers. As time permitted, I would look through them and photograph my findings. I came across this mite and was able to isolate it on a small wood fragment and as it was not running away, I lined up a frontal view and focused in the area of the gnathsoma catching a series of images. The result was far too many images to process but finally here are a few more samples. Maybe they're worth something in an educational context or as encouragement for others to follow on. I don't recall the lens but likely my TU Plan 10x on short tube lens on Olympus E-PL5.

I uploaded the mite to bugguide: https://bugguide.net/node/view/1638905 and a series of six images as a video on Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/60839073@ ... ateposted/
