I encountered this handsome fellow one morning while sitting on my front steps watching my wife work in the garden. He had apparently been there overnight and, feeling as I sometimes do in the morning, decided it was a bit too soon to start moving about and (coincidentally) distributing his already-accumulated pollen. I was able to go back into the house, fetch camera and tripod, and set up this series of almost 50 images to give to Zerene for stacking while he and his leaf remained motionless. Shortly thereafter, he began to stir, and we both decided it was time to leave, me first.

Nikon 850
Nikkor 105 macro
47 images focus bracketed at level 5
Ambient light
Zerene D-map

Thanks for looking.

That is terrific! Although its a "she". Male paper wasps will have curled antennae, and they can't sting. The males are also seen out and about at times, but maybe not as often.

My thanks to all of you. Mark, my particular thanks for the additional information; I was previously ignorant on all three points, although I did correctly presume the potential for sting!
