Shield Bug eggs and nymphs

Shield Bug Eggs and Nymphs by Aves Lux, on Flickr

Shot at 3x with a Canon R5 and MP-E65mm.

I missed the actual hatching and there seems to have been a moult already judging by the nymph size and old exoskeletons.

Really interesting to see this. Parasitic wasps came out of mine and I wondered what the original occupants would have looked like. They seem to be hanging around the empty eggs a long time too. The wasps also did that, until the last one hatched. Not all of them, but there was always at least one wandering about apparently checking on the unhatched ones.

There were about 11-12 nymphs clustered on the other side of the leaf to the eggs but yeah they hung around a while after hatching,I had thought they'd disperse quickly.

Very well done.
I think insects can have a quick molt right after hatching. Hatchlings expand considerably after hatching so it can be surprising that they had fit inside the egg. An extreme example of that are hatching walking sticks.

Kudos..........
Since I have retired and I've rekindled a love for photography. I don't take myself serious but I do take creating interesting and well executed images seriously.
