When conditions are right, I get ice crystal patterns forming on the outside of my front windows.

Not only does it need to be cold enough, but there needs to be moisture in the air, and it only happens on a few occasions during a cold spell.

When I was growing up, the windows in my bedroom were single-glazed, had loose frames and glass panes, and we didn't have central heating. It seemed a common occurrence to wake up to ice on the inside of the window.

How times change !

Can't say I've ever considered the crystal structure of hoar frost. It certainly can't be easy to shoot. Is this another first for the forum?

P.S. What surface were these crystals formed on?
