Alternatives to Equipement Exchange or eBay?

Post by jnh »

Sometimes selling stuff through the Equipment Exchange here is - not unexpectedly - a bit hit and miss. Then there's eBay, but the fees are ridiculous. Does anyone know of other sites with an audience that might be interested in microscopy-related gear?

Some fb groups, though that's also hit and miss.

Put frankly, facebook has eaten most other social media. Photomacrography is a rare exception, thankfully(!!!) Still, if you want to find a large audience outside the confines of a fee-charging marketplace facebook is almost unavoidable, even though it's also the worst.
Probably best to just add to the asking price to cover the eBay fees.

Fred Miranda buy and sell is very active - about ninety photographic listings in the past hour, for example.

There are fees to join but no commissions. $59/year, with shorter and longer options.

The forum is more for general gear, not microscopy stuff.

Do they do microscope stuff there? If so I need to spend some time checking it out.

Not so much for microscopy gear, more for general photo stuff.

I've had good luck with the Fred Maranda Buy/Sell board. Macro equipment of various sorts shows up occasionally, e.g. Novoflex bellows, macro focus rails, flashes of all kinds, and occasionally an enlarger lens or other exotic glass. No microscope equipment that I can remember seeing.
