I just published tests of these two lenses on my web site. I am aware of Robert O'Toole excellent tests of these lenses, so I tried slightly different tests and a different type of test subject, but there is just so much one can do or say differently.

This is great stuff. I have been mulling over the pros and cons of getting the Laowa 2.5-5x versus the more versatile Laowa 2X, and then boosting its mag with a Raynox 250 when I need the extra oomph. The Laowa 2x comes with electronic aperture for Canon, apparently, and that seems pretty convenient.

I already own the Canon EF 24-105mm zoom f/4 L Macro IS USM Lens but I am debating purchasing the Laowa 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens for the 2x Macro. I want to have better clarity, resolution and of course magnification. Will the $500 price of the Laowa give me those? I shoot a lot of macro.

well, it will give you 2x magnification for starterswbodine wrote: ↑Thu Apr 28, 2022 7:24 amI already own the Canon EF 24-105mm zoom f/4 L Macro IS USM Lens but I am debating purchasing the Laowa 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens for the 2x Macro. but even at 1x it it very likely significantly better. how much you notice will depend on the pixel size of your camera and the f-stop you're usually shooting at.

I'm sure you know, that is a very nice lens it is not a real macro lens. I well remember spending a couple years doing macrophotography with a 50mm prime lens and extension tubes. I thought it was awesome. Then I got a real macro lens and was all likewbodine wrote: ↑Thu Apr 28, 2022 7:24 amI already own the Canon EF 24-105mm zoom f/4 L Macro IS USM Lens but I am debating purchasing the Laowa 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens for the 2x Macro.
