as a seller I made another bad Ebay experience with their new payment method.

I sold my Labophot gears 10x at once. From those 490.-$ the customer payed only 465-. arrived (Ok Paypal) and from those 465$ ebay took 85$ fees, and gave me a very bad $->€ conversion. I ended up with 303€ :-( that is around 25% loss from 490$.

Imagine the shippment gets lost and I have to refund 490$ - horrible.

I agree the new payment method is terrible. I just had paid 15% in fees for selling a $1000. lens!

Worries me that I could not add signature required since the buyer used eBay global shipping.

Sadly I have another update.

Looks like it's not over.

May 25: eBay - items sells
Buyer ID: eye_be_me
Item: Newport MB-3 Compact Magnetic Base Used Free Shipping
Sold for: US $45.00

May 25: eBay - refunded buyer
eye_be_me has been refunded.

May 25: Blocked Buyer eye_be_me

May 27: eBay - Item Newport MB-3 Compact Magnetic Base sold Purchased by nating9949

Jun 1: eBay - Item Delivered (free Fedex ground)

Jun 1: eBay - Return started Reason for return: Doesn't match description or photos

Notes: Now I have to pay Expedited shipping both ways! Also no messages, email, or contact from buyer nating9949.

Jun 1: eBay - Request amount $45.00 Held from payouts until the request is complete.

So looks like the original Buyer/ seller, ID: eye_be_me had a friend purchase the item to make me lose money on shipping.

Why do I have a feeling this is not going to be normal return and there is nothing I can do about it.

Just realized something. The buyer nating9949 had just 3 feedback so I sent them a message to confirm and they never replied.

That should have been a red flag, I ignored that and sent the item anyway.

I won't do that again!

as a small seller you have allmost no rights, buyer can claim everything and you as seller have to pay. This only makes sense if you can sell items with 100% profit, then you can refinace all that trouble.

I also think of stopping to sellmy labophot gears on ebay - too much hassle. If anyone is interested in my stock ;-)

Rik would you like to sell such parts in this forum to gather some funding?

Hi Lothar,

Think you are right about eBay. Just removed a few auctions I had listed.

I might have another return. Sold a Rodenstock APO-Rodagon 4/150 for $950 to someone in China. They just sent me a message on eBay asking if I can give them a $230 discount since the lens is a fixed aperture version. The eBay ad was clear that I was selling the fixed aperture industrial version. #-o

I basically stopped selling internationally, too much hassle.
Been pretty lucky on national sales the last years, hardly ever had a complaint and on the rare occasion it was quickly resolved.

:D OK but for the Labophot fine focus gears less than 5% percent of customers were German, 85% USA and Canada.

So is there somebody of US interested?

Big Update June 19, 2021

Quick Recap
I buy a Rodagon lens and pay instantly
Seller does not send lens
I open a claim
Buyer fails to provide tracking
EBay closes case in my favor due to lack of tracking
Seller accuses me of fraud
I received the Rodagon after the fact
Seller tries to buy one of my products, a Newport MB-3 mag base
I cancel order
A new buyer places order for the Newport MB-3 mag base
Item received by buyer
Buyer opens not as described claim
Return shipping paid by me

This is what a received yesterday in lieu of the MB-3:

Visited my local police station and opened the package in front of an offer.
Called eBay. $45 claim denied. eBay rules in my favor. Seller loses, again.

Question is what is the guy going to try next?

Robert

Wow, that is one of the most evil scams ever. What a scumbag. I bet he is going to get some colorful feedback!

To me that doesn‘t really sound like a scammer, but rather a crazy person who thinks he‘s been treated unfair.

Personally I‘d probably just send him the lens back and hope he calms down - usually not worth the trouble in these cases.

I think you are right Chris, the guy is just crazy.

On May 21st he sent me a message time-stamped at 3 AM accusing me of being a scammer and threatening to report me to the authorities but I didn't even have his lens yet (the lens only arrived later that afternoon). I don't know if returning the lens would even help at this point. I think he needs professional help.

This should be a learning experience for everyone on the forum at least. If you sell a lens on eBay, the buyer can open a not-as-descibed claim, ship a package to you on your dime (seller is billed for return shipping), and return a 12 oz can of Sprite instead of a lens for a refund. eBay doesn't care unless you involve law enforcement. It's an expense of doing business on eBay.

Robert

Label it with "...'s tears" and drink it. It's probably all fizzed up but looks undamaged...!
Good to know a fragile soda tin can withstand more abuse than lenses :D
