This is interesting: Sigma A 105 mm f/2.8 DG DN Macro

Post by RobertOToole »

Couple of interesting things I just noticed about a lens, the Sigma A 105 mm f/2.8 DG DN Macro, that I have never even seen in person. (FYI, I am not working with Sigma in any way)

Has this lens been discussed here? (yes it has been!)

First, I just noticed that on Lenstip, it set a record in resolution beating the APO-Lanthar and the Zeiss Batis in center resolution at infinity

Another thing, a huge one, it smashes Sony FE 90 mm F2.8 Macro G OSS on lenstip, the Sigma edge is as sharp as the Sony center! (MTF is at infinity)

Optical formula is interesting, big different between the two!

S105: 17 elements, 12 groups one low dispersion element
S90Oss: 15 e, 11 g, 1 asph, one ED, one super ED element

Sigma's site: https://www.sigma-global.com/en/lenses/ ... /features/

The Sigma 105 A is $699 at BH (Sony 90 is over $1000). The Sigma is only in E-mount and L-mount. No stabilization in the lens, thats a huge plus in my opinion.

Looks like I would get this before the 70 Art, which is an excellent lens.

Anyone have any experience with the 105 Art lens?

Best,

Yes, the lens has been discussed but not much info in the thread so I guess I will leave this up? :-k

The first Sigma 105 A thread:

Another Sigma 105 A thread:

Just noticed that I was in Cedars Sinai hospital ICU when the second thread was posted, at least that explains how I missed it #-o

I had the FE90 and sold it for the Sigma 105. Optically the Sigma is better, but MF on the FE90 is much better to control. On the Sigma I have the feeling it takes a while until the electronic focus drive reacts when doing fine adjustmens. On my list is a comparison with the laowa 100mm 2:1 Macro. Robert you should give the Laowa lens a try I got mine used for 330€, thats a little more than a Minolta 5400 lens
