Darkfield Adapter for Whole Slide Imaging
Found time to play with the old project, which was inspired by:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3592912/
Initial setup:
LEDs from the top & bottom are covered with the aluminum foill (to concentrate the light to the edge of the slide). Of course, there is a dimmer.
There is a slot in the front of LEDs to place filters (pol, color, etc)
First try:
https://www.photomacrography.net/forum/ ... 38#p264938
I liked the result, next step is to place more LEDs around the perimeter, in order to have more light control.
Anybody tried this type of illumination already ?

Beta version is coming - light from both sides (separate dimmers) & sample can be rotated.

Hi Saul,
This is just great.
It has given me some ideas.
Thank you so much for sharing this brilliant project

Oh my! That could be so good for diatom arranging and easily adapted to my setup(s). I think I have some suitable parts to try it out too (but not LEDs and electronics ). I can probably simulate with fibre-optic goosenecks or LEDLenser torches for testing though. Great post that prompted quite a few related ideas for me. Thanks much!

This looks extremely rad.
There are fiber optic light guides that end in a flat bar rather than a rpund point. I wonder if these would be flat enough to use on a setup like this.

Time go I did some tests with my dual gosseneck FO guide and it was very difficult to set up but worked well enough to prove the idea. I saw those flat bar FOs but they were too expensive for a device I really didn't need.Scarodactyl wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 10:41 amThere are fiber optic light guides that end in a flat bar rather than a round point. This reminds me of the MVI Darklite I picked up on eBay a few years ago
Here's some shots of some old Victorian mount slides using the Darklite:
It uses a halogen light source and a fiber optic tube, but the idea is the sameHere's some shots of some old Victorian mount slides using the Darklite:

Hi Saul,
I found this link having Googled "MVI Darklight".
http://www.microbehunter.com/microscopy ... 6&start=60
How do the microscope images turn out with your Version 1 and Version 2 which you labelled "Beta"?
Is the 3D file for Beta going to end up in The PMN 3D Archive?
This is a very interesting project and I have already sourced some diodes in the UK but you will have to be my consultant the power and dimmer details because like other Members it is not my forte (as you know !!).
Best
John

I have a MVI Darklight as well. Need to drag it out of storage and use it a bit. Thanks for reminding me!
