3X test Objectives vs Lenses

Post by RobertOToole »

The photography is all finished for a 3x test and working on finalizing the results.

Should be able to post something later this week.

Can you guess the top 3 sharpest lenses?

Anyone?

Too easy for you Pau! :)

The mighty Mitutoyo 5x M Plan just barely edged out the little Min5400, I was surprised to say the least.

This is a corner crop sample at 100%.

Mitutoyo 5x M Plan APO 0.14 @ 3x with Voigtlander APO-Lanthar 125mm f/2.5 on the left, Minolta Elite 5400 scanner lens on the right.

Gratifying that the Mitty/Minolta match-up confirms the outcome of my test of the same (conducted while trying the Linoscan 115/5.2 scanner lens as a tube lens). The 5400 shows some diffraction blur at 3x (onto 4.5 micron pixels). I only take it up to 2.5x normally, but nice to know the limits - and nice to know I'm squeezing max performance from it. Having said that, the 5400 covers FF way better than the Mitty. Swings and roundabouts.

I look forward to reading the results. I like comparisons.
