10x microscope objective kit for hobby
Hi All,
I have been going in detail in the FAQ section for the microscope objectives and have got the general idea of the workings.
I am a hobbyist photographer from India so regular access to precise optics and kits is difficult. Yes ebay/aliexpress are options but its a big luck with customs.
Before I begin my question here is my equipment list.
Canon 80D
100mm,55-250mm and MPE 65mm.
Raynox 150 250 and MSN 202.
Wemacro Rail.
Ikea Jansos.
Since i do only hobby, I am looking to build a decent objective rig that can run on my existing setup and is not heavy on the pocket. Given that I have Raynox 150 and 250 and the 55-250 which can be used as tube lenses, the best option looks like the infinity objectives.
The MPE can handle good magnification till 5x. So post 5x to 10x is my lookout.
I am still unable to understand how the raynox 150 is mounted to the camera? is it on the extension tube and then performs as a tube lens?
Things can be brought down from the US personally so carriage is not much of a problem.
I checked Edmond Optics website but the 10x infinity objectives runs in thousand of dollars. If I am correct Robert has tested the wemacro's 10x objective too?
I am building a list of what all to buy to do this but unable to pinpoint the accessories.
Any help/links will be appreciated.
Thanks
Anvancy

My system
I put together a labeled photo in the review for this objective on Amazon. The photo and description may help:

The Mitutoyo 5X and 10X are both good choices for what you want to do. As is this Nikon 10X objective:

Hello Anvancy,

Good suggestion! I agree that the MRN70100 is an excellent low-cost objective. On APS-C, it gives good coverage even to the corners when pushed down to 5X using a 100 mm tube lens. See for example http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/v ... hp?t=16348Adalbert wrote:What about the MRN70100
Thanks for the link to Microscope Central. I was not aware that the MRN70100 could be purchased from anybody except Nikon these days.
Yes. See http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/v ... hp?t=35350 for illustration and discussion.anvancy wrote:I am still unable to understand how the raynox 150 is mounted to the camera? is it on the extension tube and then performs as a tube lens?

Hello Rik,
In the following thread you show a construction with a really small distance between the tube-lens and the microscope-objective.
http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/v ... hp?t=35350
According to the recommendation of NIKON the distance should be between 100mm and 200mm.
https://www.edmundoptics.com/microscopy ... bjectives/
Does this distance depend on the tube-lens?
If I used the Sigma LSA as a tube-lens, would I be able to reduce this distance to e.g. 50mm?

Yes, it depends on the tube lens. Beyond a certain distance you'll get vignetting, depending on the sensor size and the tube lens diameter. At very close distances you may or may not get slight degradation due to aberrations. To be honest I suspect that the specification of 100mm minimum distance is pretty arbitrary even for Nikon's tube lens.Adalbert wrote:According to the recommendation of NIKON the distance should be between 100mm and 200mm.

I have never tested with that lens so I don't know for sure. But yes, that's what I would expect. If I used the Sigma LSA as a tube-lens, would I be able to reduce this distance to e.g. 50mm?

According to https://www.nikoninstruments.com/Produc ... Comparison, the E100 uses CFI45 objectives while the E200 uses CFI60.anvancy wrote:whats the difference between E100 objectives and E200 objectives?
That will be a matter of thread size (RMS for CFI45 versus 25mm for CFI60) and parfocal distance (from mounting threads to focused subject, 45mm versus 60 mm).
In terms of mounting in front of tube lens on a camera, it's just a matter of the adapter thread and how long the objective is.

Ok so update.
My sister has given me a deadline of 31 Jan for the parts to reach at Bellevue/Seattle WA. Which means I have to source my items in the US.
Taking Adalbert's suggestion, the nikon objectives can be shipped within so I dont think that is an issue.
If I am using the 55-250 or the canon 100mm as my tube lens, I will be requiring the adapters to attach the objectives. Any leads on that?
Extension tubes can be bought in India so thats not an issue. But any intermediary adapters are hard to get in India.
Can anybody help me out in preparing a shopping list preferably items that can be sourced in the US? Still little confused on the items that need to be sourced.
Thanks
Anvay

Hi Anvay,
Please take a look at that:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/RISE-UK-58-42M ... Sw0JpV6Vzv
It has probably 42x0,75 but should match to the x1 :-)
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Camera-Adapter ... SwMvtZQjG1
Alternative with M42x1 but via 52mm:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/RISE-UK-58-52M ... SwA3tXou1p
https://www.ebay.com/itm/52mm-42mm-52-4 ... 2749.l2649
BTW, you can ask for the MRN70100 in the local subsidiary of NIKON in India

Your Canon 100mm prime would likely vignette on APSC sensor (edit: please disregard that, since Rik uses Canon APSC and already said the 100mm prime works that way), likewise if you use the 55-250 zoom and go shorter than 200mm (but it should work at 250mm). A Canon macrophotographer can tell you for sure.
