There are plenty of cheap 135mm lenses with M42 fitting that should do well enough. Some make great portrait lenses too.
Can you guys suggest good legacy lenses which I could get for a good price that I could get a cheap adapter for and use on manual?

Here is what has been suggested so far- most lenses of which I've yet to find on ebay in Europe:
- Vivitar 90mm f/2.8 1:1 (often quite cheap)
- Tokina 90mm f/2.5 AT-X (a little better, but much more expensive)
- Kiron 105mm f/2.8 1:1 (also sold as Vivitar Series 1 100mm f/2.8 )
- Vivitar 135mm f/2.8 Close Focus 1:2 (often very cheap but quite good)
- Minolta 100mm f/4.0 MD (not as fast as some others but fairly lightweight and very good)
You need to verify the availability of Nikon F adapters for your camera, but the following legacy macro lenses are also often used with good results:

Micro Nikkor 55mm f/3.5. There are a few models commonly available.
Micro Nikkor 55mm f/2.8. Some specimens have oil on the diaphragm blades that may spatter onto the internal lens elements. Better to avoid these, even though oil does not spatter when the aperture is only closed manually.
Micro Nikkor 105mm f/2.8. Avoid the modern versions without aperture ring.
