How to connect second stepper motor?

Post by nielsgeode »

I ordered a second stepper motor from Cognisys and I want to attach it to a horizontal translation stage that I still had lying around.

Yesterday, I received the stepper motor and I'm curious how the same stepper motor is connected to my StackShot. There is only a smooth metal pin without any attachment options (like thread) :?

Any help is appreciated.

Take a close look at your StackShot rail. There's a coupler with a setscrew.

Of course, I had the moving base blocking view to the coupling piece

How is this coupling piece attached to the stepper motor? How does it look on the "inside"? I don't want to dissamble it...

That's a 'non-flexible' shaft coupler. It acts like a 'sleeve', attaches to the shaft of the Nema 17 stepper motor and the shaft of the lead screw. There is nothing inside but air.

Non-flexible shaft couplers are used when perfect alignment exists between the two shafts.

As long as the stepper motor shaft is the same size, you can use the existing coupler. If not do a search for "flexible coupling" to find one with the correct size input and output ID (interior diameter).
