My field set up

Post by Guido »

This is what i have at the moment and its needs optimizing, specially a diy softbox or so.

2 Metz 48 on a manfrotto macro bracket, 2 5p Cables, 3 Hotshoe adapters F, and a hotshoe adapter FG This one allows the use of the pop up flash. And for focussing a Pentax O-ME53 Viewfinder Loupe Magnifying Eyecup.
I used to do this wireless but recently i switched to wire.

Thanks for sharing! Your excellent result speaks to your good lighting technique.

I also use a Pentax K-5 for my field photos. I use a single remote flash. I have started using the 100mm f2.8 WR macro lens and am pleased so far. Many of the flies I have photographed lately are quite easily startled. I shoot in a manual mode with the flash on "manual" and the camera's f-stop fixed. That way there is no pre-flash to startle the critter. As long as the focus (magnification) is fixed I can find a proper exposure and make a good series of shots.

I used to command them wireless with the pop-up flash. Today I discovered another advantage, this set up allows me to use the HSS mode if I close the pop-up flash.
I usually work in the AV mode choosing the f stop and have the time following. The flash is set to slow speed sync mode. With the K5 is sometimes use TAV and let the iso follow.
