50/50 dichroic mirror for coaxial illumination on eBay...

Post by APO »

To pick up on a discussion thread I read somewhere on this very densely-packed site, an ad that nicely illustrates the principle of on-axis specimen illumination can be found in the following eBay listing for a vintage Bausch & Lomb stereozoom accessory:

Those working at lower powers with very long working distances could make use of this as it is... it's easily taken on and off with a single thumbscrew and I could see a flash being sent successfully into the side port on a portable field rig. Different strength diffusers over the port would be worth experimenting with as well. This particular piece shows up on eBay regularly at lower prices.

For those working smaller, unmounted semi-silvered dichroics in different beamsplit ratios, as well as ND filters and polarizers, are available even in very small sizes from filter maker Chroma Technology:

I've dealt with the eBay seller and Chroma and both are straight shooters.
I'm not connected with either in any way.
