It seems to be a redesign of the discontinued 180 mm f/3.5, plus the obligatory image stabilization and minus the no longer fashionable aperture ring.
The older model is one of my sharpest lenses, so if the new one is on par, it will be a good alternative to more expensive lenses like the Micro Nikkor 200 F/4 (albeit don't expect the new Sigma to be cheap or lightweight - the old one never was).
