UK/European sources for objectives/linear stages

Post by mathewtaylor »

Hi all,
My first post on this fascinating forum!
I wondered where those of you in the UK (or even within Europe) sourced Newport linear stages or Nikon objectives (preferably second hand) - perhaps some 2nd hand stores within europe?

I've looked on ebay but most stuff seems to be in the USA which of course makes importing rather expensive - but perhaps this is still the most economical way?

Hope some of you may be able to answer from your own experiences :) or may even have something for sale!
Cheers,
Mat.

Objectives from UK /European sources are quite widely available on Ebay, though Nikons are less common. I have come across an Ebayer based in Germany who sells some linear stages. For Newport stages and a wider variety of Nikon objectives, you might have to bite the bullet and buy from the US or China despite the unfavourable exchange rates and possibility of import taxes. If you want to send me a PM I can mention some Ebay sources I have used, and a couple of microscope service agents in the UK who have second hand Nikon stuff from time to time.

eBay will definitely be your friend ... I have just picked up a Proxxon KT70 for about £75 from Germany - so no import taxes. The Nikon objectives do come up all around - the important thing is to just remember to work out VAT and handling fees if the parcel is coming from outside the EU :)

That would be something for me too - I'm looking for the Nikon CCU Condenser which is very hard to find... I will write a PM later.

No problem Litonotus, though you are looking for very specialised items there. I've sent a PM to Mat, glad to try to help.
