Hi - I am wondering where/how I can find a resource, either online or a book or course, where I can learn how to use a biological phase contrast microscope. I am an amateur but I'm a semi-pro wildlife photographer and I also have an 11" SCT telescope and a Meiji stereo microscope. I just love optics. I want a biological scope to look at pond life (including my backyard pond) and other such stuff. But, I have no clue how to use one, since I never have.
How can I learn? All books seem to be geared toward 7 year olds, and I can't find any local courses. I just want to learn the basics of when to use brightfield/darkfield/phase, how to prep and stain slides, all the various components, etc. It's hard to just jump into.
For reference, I am interested in the Meiji 5310T for visual and photographic use. Great tool, but very complex.
Thanks!
Brian

No man can be truly called an entomologist,

Better Microscopy -- Vols. 1 & 2 Combined Edition
By D. J. Jackson

These really need some better spell checking and editing but there is tons of good info you can't really find all together in many other places.
Photography Through the Microscope (P-2) [Paperback]
John Gustav Delly (Author), Eastman Kodak Company (Author)
A little dated, (try to get the 1970 edition) but the information is very valuable if starting out.

And then as NU has mentioned, lots of very good info on the Nikon and Olympus "educational" sites.

These should get you started.

I know nothing about the Meiji but the Wild M20 is easy to use, might be cheaper, and there is an active discussion group:

It is an old model and spares can be scarce.
