In brief... "JML" is short for JML Optical, http://jmloptical.com, who advertise themselves as "The Complete Source for Custom Precision Optics". Here at photomacrography.net, the name JML became roughly synonymous with "great glass, cheap", when it was discovered that a particular 21mm f/3.5 lens manufactured by them was both high quality and available inexpensively on the surplus market. See http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/v ... php?t=9405. Since that first experience, it appears to me that the performance and price of that one batch of surplus lenses has propelled JML to something approaching cult status, so that anything bearing their initials immediately becomes a highly promising purchase. It will be interesting to see how the reputation holds up with further experiences.henke wrote:Where can I find more information about these objectives? A google search didn't yield much information.
You can find lots more information by searching the forum here for "JML".

My lots arrived today as well. As already mentioned in this thread, now I have a dozen specimens of this lens that I can resell individually or in pairs (this should primarily be of interest to members in the EU, considering the cost of re-shipping them).
I was further slapped with about $ 65 in customs fees, and will have to find out exactly how much to charge including shipment and PayPal fees in order not to loose money on this, then I will begin contacting the members who have already expressed an interest.
It is unlikely that I will have time to test this lens before selling the extra specimens. However, I still have several specimens left available after counting out the ones that have already been requested, and it does not look like any interested members need to hurry up. You can probably wait at leisure for someone else to test this lens and post their results here before committing to a purchase.
As mentioned in a post above this, the barrel is cylindrical with a diameter slightly in excess of 20 mm and a length slightly over 30 mm. The front (?) element is about 3 mm recessed in the barrel (which makes it a nice lens shade), the larger rear (?) element is much more recessed (about 9 mm) and probably the barrel would need to be machined in order to reverse this lens and use it efficiently. About 6 mm of barrel could be hacked off from the rear rather easily. The working distance at high magnification is very approximately 10mm with the front element toward the subject, 1-2 mm only with the rear element facing the subject. I have no idea whether reversing this lens makes it work better.

To get all together and maybe a tribute to this forum as a great source for information to the world of macro.

Here is what I figured out after counting all my costs:
The total cost for one JML 26 mm f/4.5 mailed by registered letter to an address within the EU and paid to me via PayPal is going to be: 28 €.
I can ship two specimens of this lens in the same envelope for a total cost of: 42 €. Shipment outside the EU will cost more, and likely you will also have to pay customs duties.
The lenses are wrapped in a white paper (probably the original packaging from JML) and will be shipped in a padded envelope. I am going to contact each of the members who have already expressed an interest (in the order they have done so), so if you already have contacted me you do not need to do it again.
I did not count all the requests, but it seems there are still a few lenses available (I have 13 available in total, plus 2 I am keeping myself). I would prefer not to ship more than two specimens per address, in order to leave a chance to all interested members in the EU to get their one(s).
