Hi,
Some lab threw an old fibre optic light source on the scrap cart at work. It seems to have a lens and heat filter at the base of the connector so I figure it could be ok if functioning (and I imagine simple to fix if something electrical is toast). It is a Schott Mainz KL150B, without lamp and goose neck. The lamp is supposed to be 15V 150W, and seems reasonably easy to get hold of.
Since there is no fibre optic guide I would need get one to be able to use it, preferably dual, but I really have no idea what to look for to make sure that it is compatible, I'm not even sure if it is a smart thing to do since that part seem to be the expensive part, not the source. Perhaps better to look for a complete set on the bay even if I have a free source?
Does anyone know what specifications the fibre optic part should have to fit the unit? Is there some other critical parameter than the diameter?
Any other "cost effective" places to find light guides than the bay?
This is a link with a pic of a similar base unit:

That ad says diameter 1.14 cm for the connector, wich sound lika a really odd dimension, is that what I should be looking for?
Thanks for any help! /Per

This would be a good fiber optic source to use and is probably pretty easy to repair.
You need to start watching ebay for Schott Fiber Optic light guides.
Here in the US they are a bit less common than FOSTEC and some other brands but in Europe Schott is the most common.
I would suggest to look for light guides that are limp as opposed to the so called "obedient" guides which never are. You position them and then they move right when you would like to take a picture or do something.
The limp ones require something rigid to hold them but they stay put.
Illuminators and light guides are sold both separately and together.
Get as big a guide as will fit into the collet clamp on the illuminator.
