Source for male-to-male adapter?

Post by fmiller4 »

I have a Nikon PB-4 coming in from eBay. Super pumped!
It has Nikon to 39mm (female) adapter.
BUT
I'd like to reverse mount an enlarging lens with a 30.5(?) female front thread.
I -think- I need a male to male 39mm to 30.5 adapter.
Can any of you give me a tip toward finding who makes one of these?
Thanks!

Ha~!

Given my tendency to have obsessions when other people have interests, I'd like to avoid that particular rabbit hole...

It is unlikely you will find that, but you can find step-up and step-down rings that link the unusual threads to a common size, and then you can use standard male-male rings.

I would do as Lou suggests, and I look first for 52 mm as the intermediate because so many things come with that.

At this moment I find on eBay:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/162089376565 39-52 step up (39 male, 52 female)
https://www.ebay.com/itm/151841869583 52-52 male-male
https://www.ebay.com/itm/223435686657 30.5-52 step up (30.5 male, 52 female)

Also note that Nikon makes a BR-2 reversing ring that fits the F-mount. and that gives you additional options.

I too would go for the solution suggested, but I think there also are more expensive options:
customphototools.com/enlarger-lens-reverse-adapters/

(I have no affiliation whatsoever. Made to order?)

My contact in China makes such rings for around $20 (simple ones), if you are desperate. He will need the thread pitch and some other parameters such as thickness.

Adding in outbound shipping, the $20 quickly becomes $40-$50.

My suggestion is to get a more standard thread for your bellows and purchase/order rings to that instead of having a specific ring for each lens.

get a reverse mount ring Nikon -> filter thread like this for 52mm
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003 ... CWgUi6xvsY

and then a step down: 52->30,5

I find most of these aftermarket Nikon reversing rings to be either too loose or too tight. I highly recommend the ring I mentioned above instead, the original Nikon BR-2 ring (or BR-2A, which for this application is identical to the BR-2).
