Vorticella in Darkfield

Nikon S type microscope
Darkfield by American Optical darkfield condenser
20X M Nikon Achromat
Olympus FK 6.7X projection eyepiece, no relay lens
Canon 10D
Low speed strobe
Photoshop modifications

Shot before I made the C. Krebs modifications to my strobe, I can only imagine the differance it will make once suitable subjects cross my path again.

They remind me of the Phosphorescent plankton I used to run into as a teenager during the summer swimming at night in the Long Island Sound, New York (Highschool beach parties). We would dive into the water and all these Phosphorescent plankton would make the water a beautiful electric blue. I know these are not Phosphorescent but they are beautiful pictures Walter.

Very nice images there Walt. Vorticella are quite interesting to watch and fun to photograph.

Thanks guys. The blue is my mistake. I had the camera's color temperature at the wrong setting for flash and the file type was not RAW so I can't seem to correct it.

Walt... you show the moving cilia nicely here... something I have pretty much given up trying to do with darkfield!
