Post by Franz Neidl »

This is an other living tintinnid ciliate from the marine plancton. The lorica ("house") was 137 µm long.
I dont know the species.

Hello Franz,
Very nice pictures of this tintinnid.
I think it is Codonellopsis cf lusitanica
What kind of objectiv did you use, oil immersion and Dic
I like to hear more about your techniques.

Hallo Jan,
thank you very much for your answer.
For this pictures I used a Nikon 20x and a Nikon 40x Planapo objective with DIC. The ciliate was very fast moving - therefore I used my flash (which is modified) in a so called double-collector (from Stahlschmidt). The camera is a Pentax K20D.

Nice shots Franz, this reminds me of the old 'Flash Gordon' rocketships, I can imagine sparks flying out of the back of it as it whizzes along! :)
