Collema cf. tenax, a jelly lichen

Post by ralfwagner »

Hello,

I found this one at the wayside between mosses in a municipal forest in Düsseldorf.

- Lobes, dry. The swollen lobe ends in dry state are typical.

Image

- Lobe, cross section. This phasecontrast picture shows clearly single Nostocchains and fungal hyphae.

Image

- As above, but oblique illumination. Collema has no cortex.

Enjoy!

Ralf,

I think these are your most attractive lichen pictures yet. Although there is no cortex, I think there is a suuggestion in your photos that the Nostoc filaments are less abundant close to the surface.

Great photos, thanks once again!

Brian
