Karl, this is a great image. It looks a lot like one I found in March 2009 off the Island of Hawaii. Images in Round (The Diatoms, 1990) suggest it might be a species of Biddulphiopsis. This fractured, cleared cell shows the valve and girdle views. Taken with bright field and Canon A590.http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/u ... eidl_1.jpg

So I've edited your post to change the embedded image to a link to comply with the guidelines. Of course if Franz is okay with you posting a picture in his thread then we can change it back...Do not post an image of your own in someone else's topic, without their permission, in any of the image galleries. This can be rude, especially if it diverts attention away from the original poster's image. If you want to post a similar or related image, create a new topic for your image and post cross-references between the two topics if appropriate. In technical discussion forums, images can be posted in anyone's topic as long as they help the discussion.

Apologies to Franz
Betty, yes, I meant Franz. Thanks for the welcome.
Laurie, thanks for the tips on posting in some else's topic. As I new-comer, I am now looking through the Beginner's forum.

Franz,
Thanks for the name of your stacker. I have yet to try this technique.
Here's a link to pages from Round showing Biddulphiopsis and Isthmia. I found it by googling "Isthmia". Hopefully it will work for you.
