What is the first one and new version of a colony.

Here is a rather large cilate. It's about the size of large Paramecium. What might it be?

The second photo is my latest try to photograph these colonies. My recent batch of stagnant water is teeming with them. At leat the flagella are showing in this photo.

Jim, i still think, the colony is not Synura, but a free swimming colony of Anthophysis.
Colourless flagellates, matchable shape as on my pic below...
When you put a coverglass on the surface of your specimen, these free swimming colonies
often settle down to this new "habitat". After some hours you find the typical
means of a stalk which is coloured brown.

Just lift the coverglass with a forceps and put it on a microscope slide.....
